X/γ-ray Measurements of the Faint Grb 020321

چکیده
GRB 020321 is a faint GRB that received wide follow-up attention in X-rays (BeppoSAX/NFI, Chandra/ACIS-S, XMM-Newton), radio (ATCA) and optical (ESO, HST). We identify a weak X-ray after-glow by a combined study of the Chandra and XMM-Newton observations. Its decay index of 1.2 is typical for GRB afterglows. Inside the 4 ′′ accurate error box there is a weak optical counterpart candidate with a much shallower decay index.

Swift X-ray Afterglows: Where Are the X-ray Jet Breaks?
— We examine the Swift/X-ray Telescope (XRT) light curves from the first ∼ 150 gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows. Although we expected to find jet breaks at typical times of 1-2 days after the GRB, we find that these appear to be extremely rare. Typical light curves have a break in the slope at about 10 4 s, followed by a single power-law decay whose slope is much too shallow to be consistent wi...
متن کاملMassive star-formation rates of γ-ray burst host galaxies: An unobscured view in X-rays
The hard X-ray (2–10 keV) luminosity of a star-forming galaxy tracks its population of high mass X-ray binaries and is essentially unobscured. It is therefore a practically unbiased measure of star-formation in the host galaxies of γ-ray bursts (GRBs). Using recent and archival observations of GRBs with the XMM-Newton and Chandra X-ray observatories, limits are placed on the underlying X-ray em...
متن کاملThe weak INTEGRAL bursts GRB 040223 and GRB 040624 : an emerging population of dark afterglows
We report here γ-ray, X-ray and near-infrared observations of GRB 040223 along with γ-ray and optical observations of GRB 040624. GRB 040223 was detected by INTEGRAL close to the Galactic plane and GRB 040624 at high Galactic latitude. Analyses of the prompt emission detected by the IBIS instrument on INTEGRAL are presented for both bursts. The two GRBs have long durations, slow pulses and are ...
متن کاملGRB 040403 : a faint X - ray rich Gamma - ray Burst discovered by INTEGRAL ⋆
GRB 040403 is one of the faintest gamma-ray bursts for which a rapid and accurate localization has been obtained. Here we report on the gamma-ray properties of this burst, based on observations with the IBIS instrument aboard INTEGRAL, and the results of searches for its optical afterglow. The steep spectrum (power law photon index = 1.9 in the 20-200 keV range) implies that GRB 040403 is most ...
متن کاملDISCOVERY AND REDSHIFT OF AN OPTICAL AFTERGLOW IN 71 SQUARE DEGREES: iPTF13BXL AND GRB 130702A
We report the discovery of the optical afterglow of the γ-ray burst (GRB) 130702A, identified upon searching 71 deg2 surrounding the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) localization. Discovered and characterized by the intermediate Palomar Transient Factory, iPTF13bxl is the first afterglow discovered solely based on a GBM localization. Real-time image subtraction, machine learning, human vetti...
